The Top 10 Surfing Quotes

In no particular order, how about:

1. You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf (Jon Kabat-Zinn).

2. Surfing is very much like making love. It always feels good, no matter how many times you've done it (Paul Strauch).

3. Surfing, alone among sports, generates laughter at its very suggestion, and this is because it turns not a skill into an art, but an inexplicable and useless urge into a vital way of life (Matt Warshaw).

Captainfront 4.
I could not help concluding this man had the most supreme pleasure while he was driven so fast and so smoothly by the sea (Capt James Cook).

5. Out of water, I am nothing (Duke Kahanamoku).

6. Sometimes in the morning, when it's a good surf, I go out there, and I don't feel like it's a bad world (Kary Mullis).

7. Charlie don't surf (Lt Col William Kilgore).

8. Surfing is the most blissful experience you can have on this planet, a taste of heaven (John McCarthy).

9. I love surfing more than cricket. It's more interesting and you meet great people (Hansie Cronje).

Joker 10. Then, after I've gotten rid of Batman and Robin for good, I will rule the waves. Me, the Joker, king of the surf and all the surfers. Then, Gotham City! Later, the world! (The Joker).

I seem to recall having seen one or two of those quotes elsewhere recently Alex...

Should some famous commercial quotes be allowed? They shaped the attitude of generations?

How about Instinct's 'Only a Surfer knows the feeling.."?

or "Surfing is life...the rest is details..."

and of course Reef's "Life's too short. Don't waste it. Go Surfing."

These, not myself, were ultimately responsible for my failure to achieve jack at Skool...

Just read a classic quote which could be a contender:
"If I say it's safe to surf this beach Captain, then it's safe to surf this beach. I mean I'm not afraid to surf this place. I'll surf this whole fucking place!" Kilgore, Apocalypse Now.

What about:
"You should have been here 1 hour ago"
or
"be nice to other surfers; they could have a good looking sister"

All good, although my fav would have to be "The best surfer in the water is the one having the most fun". Honestly can't remember who said it. Think it may have been one of the yanks in the 70's or Hawaiian crew same time. I live in Byron and surf with Geoff McCoy regularly. He sprouts that all the time. While we sit wide down the line laughing at all the kooks taking it so damned seriously. Point being I haven't surfed for nearly 40 years because it feeds my ego. It's because it's FUN. Close second? "The older I get the Better I was" Me LOL. Btw I if anyones coming to Byron bay on Holiday, you may wanna check my site I'm giving away a free custom longboard in a draw. But you gotta come to OZ to get it. Or pay for shipping.
I'll be back

One quote I never forgot after reading it over 30 years ago in surfer magazine was from Jericho Poppler, at the time the world champion woman surfer. They asked her what she gets from surfing and she said: I get the same thing out of surfing that I get from a good bowel movement, relief and satisfaction!
